Located in Northwest Alabama, two miles west of Rogersville, off U.S. Highway 72, the park is approximately 50 miles west of Huntsville and 27 miles east of Florence. Interstate 65 and Athens are 22 miles east of the park.
The campground is a favorite among campers and features large, level sites among towering pines. There are 116 campsites in the improved campground – 110 sites with full hook-ups, which includes water, electric and sewage hook-ups. Joe Wheeler Resort State Park also has a primitive campground in which guests can use the bathhouse located in the adjacent C loop of the campground. These sites do not have electrical hook-ups, but water hydrants are located in this area.
