South Beach State Park is on the south side of the Yaquina Bay Bridge just outside Newport, Oregon.

South Beach State Park features 324 sites including 27 Yurts. 225 of the sites have electricity and water. Beach access is about a half a mile’s walk on paved trails. The campground can completely fill up during busy summer weekends and reservations are recommended. Note that the Yurts are particularly popular and it is a good idea to make reservations at least six months in advance.

This park is a favorite of the Camping USA staff and is recommended if you are planning on camping near Newport. The tent loops are especially nice, offering newer shower facilities and many secluded spots positioned at the edge of the park. If you enjoy hiking or trail running, there is a two-mile-long trail that winds through the sandy hills surrounding the park.

If you plan on camping at South Beach for the fourth of July, be sure to bundle up and walk down to the Jetty for Newport’s impressive fireworks display.
