About: The campground is considered “primitive,” designed to furnish only the basic needs of the camper. The campsites consist of a cleared area, fire ring, and table. In addition, vault toilets, garbage cans, and drinking water are available. There are 55 horse sites and 2 camp sites.
All sites are on a first-come, first-served basis for a fee.
Tamarack Horse Campground offers pull-through campsites, picket lines at each campsite, and manure bunkers. There is also a day-use rider parking lot.
Approximately 25 miles of horse trails exist within St. Croix State Forest. The Willard Munger State Trail, a multi-use trail open to horseback riding, also passes through the forest toward Duluth.
Directions: From Hinckley take State Hwy. 48 (E) from I-35, 23 mi. to Pine Co. 173; turn left (N) 5 mi. to Tamarack Forest Rd. Follow forest road approx. 3 mi.; turn left (S) 2 mi.
