Prairie is the first campground that you come to as you leave Hwy 97 and head into the crater area of Newberry Monument. This campground is still outside the Monument area itself where you do have to pay a small fee to visit. It is a good one for those who would like to pull off Hwy 97 as they travel North and South or would just like to take a break in a nice area without a lot of other campers. There is pressurized water with plenty of the old style wood structure vault toilets. Some campers prefer to camp here and drive in the monument area rather than camping there where the price is a little higher.

Fees: Per night, per site fee: $14/first vehicle; $7/each additional vehicle. Dump Station: $10. (2011)

Water: Potable Water

Restrooms: Vault Toilet

Usage: Light

Restrictions: Maximum site spur length is 30 feet.

Directions: From Bend, travel about 23.5 miles south on Hwy 97 and 3 miles east on County Road 21.
