Timpanogas Campground is located at the far southeast end of the district in a high elevation stand of silver, grand and noble fir. Timpanogas Lake is part of the Oregon Cascades Recreation Area which is designated as semi-primitive motorized use. The area is designed to conserve, protect and manage, in a substantially undeveloped condition, the unique value. Summer recreation use includes: hiking, viewing, horseback riding, fishing and camping. Winter recreation offers many marked snowmobile routes and a shelter across the lake. Spring cross-country skiing is gaining popularity in the area. Timpanogas Lake is the headwaters of the Middle Fork Willamette River. Fishing in the lake (non-motorized boating) is often very good for cutthroat and brook trout. The Timpanogas Basin offers 23 miles of hiking trails. Excellent views of Diamond Peak, Sawtooth and Cowhorn Mountains can be obtained along the trails. July and August are often very uncomfortable because of the large mosquito population, so be prepared!

Directions: 43 miles southeast of Oakridge in the Oregon Cascades Recreation Area. From Oakridge, follow Hwy 58 east for 2 miles east to Kitson Springs Road. Continue on Kitson Springs Road for 0.5 miles to FS Road 21. Proceed on FS Road 21 for 32 miles to FS Road 2154. Continue on FS Road 2154 for approximately 10 miles to Timpanogas Campground.
